Daily Dino Fact: Compy, the other white meat

Q: What was the tiniest dinosaur? -Djcoolio
A: The smallest dinosaur ever found was Compsognathus, described as a “chicken sized” dinosaur but was really about the size of a turkey. Commonly known as a compy, the theropod dinosaur was about 3 ft long in length and only weighed about 6.5 lbs. It was originally discovered in the 1850s by a German fossil hunter but a full adult specimen wasn’t discovered until 1972.
Compys are yet another dinosaur that can be found in Jurassic Park. You may remember the compy from Jurassic Park II as they are found in the opening scene on the beach and featured throughout the movie. Compsognathus was probably a fierce little guy, agile and fast enough to get away from most predators and able to easily hunt prey such as early mammals.
