Daily Dino Fact: More dinos than you’d think (And my question!!)

My question got posted for the second time! Well, it has said my name 3 times but one of them they put instead of someone elses name, they put mine! So, here is the Daily dino Fact!

Q: Do scientists have about an estimated amount of how many dinosaurs there were? -Flyergal
A: The only information we can truly know about how many dinosaurs there were is what we collect from fossils. Obviously, we haven’t recovered every single dinosaur that existed and our numbers are less than what actually lived. In a report released in 1990, Peter Dodson from the University of Pennsylvania estimates there were between 900-1200 genera of dinosaur present on earth during the course of the Mesozoic.
Even he admits that the number is probably smaller than the actual number, but it’s the best estimate we can give based on current data. Currently we’ve collected over 500 genera of dinosaur in addition to 100 genera (called nomen dubium) that may or may not be unique dinosaurs. There are over 100 genera of dinosaur right now waiting approval by the International Committee on Zoological Nomenclature.

Ice Cream Party was nom nomalicious!

Sorry I haven't been posting lately. I was lazy. But the ice cream party rocked!:

Webo Ridge was looking extra delicious today as we partied with our good friends Primary Games and Nitro. As always, the party was done in Webosaurs style. Big names, big games and big fun! Once we had gorged ourselves on all the ice cream laying about we took off to play some Snowball Skirmish and Matterhorn Big Air.
Everyone who came today will be receiving a free Ice Cream Sundae to put in their caves. If you attended, your sundae will appear in your cave on Monday. The best present of all though? An awesome time. Thanks Primary Games and Webosaurs for this awesome party!

Daily Dino Fact: Ancient Ink

Now this is exciting, paleontologists from the British Geological Survey have found ink preserved with a 150 million year old squid. They’ve even drawn with it! The squid fossil and ink sac were found during a dig in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
It’s truly amazing that something liquid like an ink sac would remain inside a 150 million year old fossil. The fossilized animal found is similar to that of the modern day squid and would have carried the same kind of ink.
Paleontologists on the dig think that a bunch of squid died together from algae poisoning while they were trying to mate. There were other kinds of squid in the area, suggesting that they came to prey off the originally dead squid and were poisoned themselves.
I can’t imagine what it would be like to look at this ancient ink, or even use it! Can you imagine writing a letter with it? It would be the most expensive letter of your life!

Daily Dino Fact: Recent find- Pterodactyls were sophisticated flyers

We can tell all kinds of things about dinosaurs and how they were physically. One of the toughest things to know is how they actually behaved. Recently, paleontologists from Berkeley released their findings on a set of pterodactyl tracks from a rock formation in France.

The Pterry tracks were actually the fossil of an ancient “runway” that the animal used for landing. The tracks suggest that the pterodactyl flapped its wings to a stall before dragging its toes along the ground and hopping a couple times before slowing to a stop. The animals would then walk off on all fours.

No other set of tracks in the world has ever been found showing a take-off or landing. They were light animals and rarely left fossil tracks, but scientists say there are hundreds of tracks around their recent find. This is a huge find not only because of how rare it is, but what it tells us about these flying reptiles. Their flying and wing control is much more sophisticated than we ever thought!

Maybe the ancient pterodactyls were just as smart as our good friend Pterry!
