Daily Dino Fact: Ancient Ink

Now this is exciting, paleontologists from the British Geological Survey have found ink preserved with a 150 million year old squid. They’ve even drawn with it! The squid fossil and ink sac were found during a dig in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
It’s truly amazing that something liquid like an ink sac would remain inside a 150 million year old fossil. The fossilized animal found is similar to that of the modern day squid and would have carried the same kind of ink.
Paleontologists on the dig think that a bunch of squid died together from algae poisoning while they were trying to mate. There were other kinds of squid in the area, suggesting that they came to prey off the originally dead squid and were poisoned themselves.
I can’t imagine what it would be like to look at this ancient ink, or even use it! Can you imagine writing a letter with it? It would be the most expensive letter of your life!
